Internship at ITI

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

It is the summer quarter at Baker now (and has been for a while) and I decided to take a speech class and the required internship for my Bachelors. I was lucky enough to find an internship relatively fast and have been working there for almost a month now. The company is called Integration Technologies Inc. and they offer a wide variety of information tech services; anything from spyware prevention & spyware removal to full on network implementation. They are based right here in Muskegon, and their office is only 10 to 15 minutes away. But I get to work on most projects right from my apartment, so that has been really nice.

It has been really cool to be in a position where I get to take the skills I’ve learned in class and use them in the “real world”. None of it really seems like work though, because it’s what I love to do. I have also learned quite a bit just by jumping in and working on projects. I and read a lot of Microsoft Exchange Mail Server 2007 and how it works. I have been working on a transport agent for Exchange, which is basically a small piece of code that will check variables on any incoming email and then decide what to do with that email. I also got to go to a client and help implement a new network at a local company. That was pretty cool. We ended up staying there close to 11 hours, but it was a really neat experience to see and help with the process of installing a new network over an existing one.

So basically it has been great so far and I can imagine it will be pretty great later on. Now that my site is back up and finally finished, I will keep you guys in the loop. Check back soon for a post on folder synchronization…
